Last week was a frickin’ busy one for thermidor< and long may it continue(!). In particular, as we get all our ducks in a row for MJBizCon, we’re reminded of how lucky we are to be working in cannabis. It’s just fun, and even when it’s challenging, it doesn’t lose that edge – we blinkin’ love it.
This quote’s a bit longer than we normally go for, but it is bang on the money.
“Americans can’t agree on anything, can we? Is it ‘gif’ or ‘jiff’? Are hotdogs sandwiches? Is wrestling a sport? Fortunately, there’s at least one thing most Americans have in common: more than two-thirds of us agree cannabis should be legalized, and we have a real shot at getting federal legalization done now if we speak up.”
We love words. A pretty big part of the work we do at thermidor< is picking out the right ones and putting them in the right order. But where do the words we use for weed come from and where might tomorrows develop?
Cookies are undeniably the poster child for brand building in the cannabis space. So much so that they’ve grown into clothing, skateboards, all kinds of merch. So when they get accused of flouting some draft state regs for advertising marijuana and stores – it stinks.
The first signing of its kind in major professional sports – now that’s a headline. Charlotte’s Web Holdings, a big CBD brand started in Colorado, has become an Official Partner of Major League Baseball. Big steps here people, big steps.
You might not know it, but cannabis legalisation and the queer community have been intrinsically linked for decades. Cannabis has played a huge part in combating the side effects of HIV medication and as a result has become something the community continues to fight hard to legalize.
Amendment 64 was downright historic. This newsletter exists, at least in part, to the successful ballot on big A64 – making cannabis for adult use, legal in Colorado. It was the first domino in the line and in ten years has generated more than $2 billion in tax revenue and fees for the Centennial State.
The state of medical cannabis in the UK isn’t brilliant. Mostly built from a lack of awareness on both sides of the patient/doctor divide. People don’t know they can get it, and doctors don’t know they can give it – or don’t want to. Still, it’s funny to think about a doctor prescribing you the latest Glue or Kush.
