What is up you delicious thermidorks?? It’s all happening in Europe at the mo with The Cannabis Summit in The Hague last week and ICBC Berlin this week. And while we won’t make it to the latter, we got to the former – and very good it was too.
Highlights from The Cannabis Summit included an insightful discussion on the Dutch Experiment, a look at future trends within the sector, and a look at the ever-changing international legal and regulatory landscape.
Do you, err, indulge on the job? According to a new survey, some 22.5% of people admit to consuming drugs and alcohol – with one in five using cannabis – at work. While remote work is apparently to blame, the question is does this matter? Well, as long as everything gets done, right?
On the subject of workplace cann-tics, across the Pond in the US, some 38,000 cannabis consuming truck drivers failed mandatory drug screening tests last year… and it seems many are not reapplying for the same work this year. Perhaps they’ll opt to try their luck in, um, ‘greener’ pastures…?
One of the biggest reasons for legalising cannabis is safety. Yup, unless you’re growing it yourself, you just don’t know what nastiness is being shoved into illicit market offerings. Case in point? Xylazine – an animal tranquilizer which can apparently cause skin ulcers, overdoses, and even death.
The French town of Bègles has announced plans for an adult-use cannabis trial. The Bordeaux suburb is keen to forge ahead with something akin to the Swiss model: a measured and democratic approach to harm reduction, crime prevention, and destigmatisation. Now there’s an initiative we can get behind.
Cannabis affects all of us differently. We know this. But why? It’s because some of us metabolise it more slowly than others – resulting in less efficient THC breakdown: and a greater susceptibility to CUD (Cannabis Use Disorder).
It’s hardly news, but not only does our favourite herb give us the giggles, but by doing so it’s doing us some good too. Laughter has a positive impact on our bodies – reducing stress, soothing tension, and stimulating our hearts, lungs, and other organs.
Who knew? (Who didn’t know!).
