Spring’s in full swing this side of the Earth (as in perpetual rain, but less overall darkness), and what better way to celebrate than to bear witness to the waves being made across the global cannabis industry?
While it’s all systems go in Germany, the question on everyone’s lips is ‘who will legalise next?’ Perhaps this month’s conference season will shed some new light on matters. With ICBC Berlin next week, and The Cannabis Summit in The Hague this Friday (12th April), tongues are sure to be wagging with wild speculation!
The big news about Germany’s move to (partially) legalise recreational cannabis has been met with joy and elation. As the motion came into being on 1st April, revellers took to the streets of Berlin, congregating at the Brandenburg Gate for a public ‘smoke in’.
The former governor of US state, Minnesota – Jesse Ventura – announced last week that he plans to enter the rec cannabis market. Under the Ventura Farms brand, the former actor-wrestler-politician will release his own brand of edibles.
In an unforeseen ruling, a New York State judge struck down all rules relating to adult use cannabis last week… only to later backtrack his decision and amend rules to limit third-party advertising. Judge Kevin Bryant described rules relating to cannabis marketing as ‘arbitrary and capricious’, putting the New York State Office of Cannabis Management under fire.
More than 500 drivers in California working for cannabis delivery company Eaze, have voted to strike ahead of 420 celebrations – after union contract negotiations reached deadlock. Negotiations over pay, reimbursements, and working hours have been in play since August last year.
Despite initial optimism, legislators in Hawaii have killed a bill to legalise recreational cannabis. The reason? It was deemed an ‘inopportune time for its implementation given current wildfire recovery efforts’. The bill won’t get another hearing this side of… 2025.
Hemp has long been used as a clothing material… but CBD? Yup, you heard right – a partnership between sneaker brand 8000kicks and Royal Queen Seeds has yielded the ‘Weedo’ –a handcrafted eco-friendly shoe that comprises both hemp and 500mg of CBD flower. But, you better act quick if you want a pair – only 100 pairs have been made.
